Hanovia Is Now Nuvonic,
What the Rebrand Means for You

Hanovia Is Now Nuvonic, What You Need to Know About the Transition

Hanovia has been a name synonymous with UV disinfection for nearly a century. Founded in 1924 as the British Hanovia Quartz Lamp Company, it built its legacy as a pioneer in ultraviolet technology for both industrial and medical applications. For decades, Hanovia earned global trust for its innovation, reliability, and performance in water disinfection.

In April 2023, something changed, not the science, not the service, but the name. Hanovia, together with three other Halma owned UV companies, Aquionics in the Americas, Berson in the Netherlands, and Orca, UVpro, in Germany, came together under a single global brand, Nuvonic. As of 2025, the transition to Nuvonic is complete, and the Hanovia brand has been fully absorbed into Nuvonic.

Why does this matter? Because for customers, partners, and industry professionals, the change raises fair questions, what is different now, who is Nuvonic, and what happens to the products and people you have trusted for years? We wrote this article to answer exactly that.

In this article, you will learn,
• Why Hanovia rebranded as Nuvonic
• What is changing, and what is not, for customers
• How Nuvonic is shaping the future of UV technology

Let’s dive in.

Hanovia’s Legacy, A Century of Innovation

To understand why Hanovia’s rebrand matters, you need to understand its roots. Hanovia began in 1924 in Slough, UK, as the British Hanovia Quartz Lamp Company, a trailblazer in ultraviolet lamp technology. Its early innovations served medical sterilisation needs and gradually expanded into industrial water disinfection.

By the time it joined the Halma plc group in 1981, Hanovia had already built a reputation for technical excellence and dependable UV systems used in food and beverage production, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and municipal water treatment.

For decades, Hanovia led the way in delivering chemical free, sustainable disinfection solutions trusted by companies worldwide. Its name became shorthand for quality in UV technology, especially in regulated industries where reliability and validation are critical. Even today, Nuvonic celebrates 100 years of heritage by referencing Hanovia’s foundation, a clear nod to the company’s pivotal role in shaping UV disinfection as we know it.

Bottom line, Hanovia did not just make UV systems, it made history in UV.

Why the Change, The Strategy Behind the Nuvonic Rebrand

So why rebrand a name with nearly a century of recognition? Simple, to create something stronger.

In 2023, Hanovia, Aquionics, Berson, and Orca officially unified under a single brand, Nuvonic. While each had deep roots in UV disinfection, they previously operated independently, often with overlapping markets and products.

This unification was not a cost cutting exercise, it was a strategic move to meet the needs of global customers, many of whom operate in multiple regions and require consistent product lines, streamlined support, and faster innovation cycles.

Here is the deal, by merging into Nuvonic, these four brands could offer,
• One unified product portfolio across air, surface, and water UV applications
• One global support structure, reducing service gaps and regional silos
• One R and D engine, accelerating development and responding to market demands faster

As Nuvonic’s leadership noted, customers no longer deal with four smaller, regional brands, they work with one global UV disinfection partner. And that is not just marketing, it is operational scale, multiplied expertise, and seamless service, delivered under one name.

What Stayed the Same for Hanovia Customers After the Transition

In April 2023, Hanovia officially rebranded as Nuvonic. As of 2025.  The change was designed to be seamless for customers.

If you are wondering whether your support contacts disappeared or your equipment became obsolete, the answer is no.

Here is what continued without disruption,
Trusted teams, now under one name. The people you knew at Hanovia, engineers, sales reps, and service specialists, are still here. They now represent Nuvonic, backed by a larger global organisation.
Same systems, same standards. Hanovia’s UV disinfection products remain supported within Nuvonic’s global portfolio. Existing installations are still serviced, maintained, and validated to the same high standards.
Upgraded support. With four brands unified under Nuvonic, customers benefit from broader service coverage, faster response times, and integrated expertise across applications and regions.

While the Hanovia brand name is no longer in active use, its legacy lives on, embedded in Nuvonic’s DNA.

What is New Under the Nuvonic Banner

While legacy and continuity matter, the real story is what Nuvonic enables moving forward. As a unified brand, Nuvonic has launched initiatives and technologies that were harder to deliver as four separate companies.

Here is what is new,
Global R and D collaboration. By combining the technical expertise of Hanovia, Berson, Aquionics, and Orca, Nuvonic created a larger, more agile development team. This accelerates product innovation and market responsiveness.
Launch of Remote services. Nuvonic offers secure remote monitoring and support of UV systems, reducing downtime and enhancing service across geographies.
Expanded product ranges. Nuvonic has expanded DVGW validated systems, introduced new open channel UV solutions, and is rolling out energy efficient, sustainable UV systems aligned to next generation compliance and performance standards.
Stronger supply chain and service integration. One global brand means streamlined logistics, unified documentation and portals, and broader service networks, especially valuable for multinational customers.

In short, Nuvonic did not just combine resources, it unlocked new potential.

The Bigger Picture, UV Disinfection in a Changing World

This rebrand is not happening in a vacuum. The UV disinfection industry is evolving, driven by sustainability goals, regulatory shifts, and the need to address new contaminants.

Here is why the timing matters,
Emerging threats need modern solutions. Conventional treatment processes are ineffective against emerging contaminants such as PFAS, 1,4 dioxane, pharmaceutical residues and micropollutants. UV are becoming promising alternative solutions, however the application of specific UV requires understanding of chemical chain reactions and optimisation for targeted contaminants usually through pilot testing

  • Sustainability is non negotiable. As organisations push toward net zero operations, UV disinfection is increasingly favoured over chlorine based or chemical intensive systems. It eliminates hazardous by products, reduces carbon footprint, and improves water reuse options.
Regional adoption is uneven, but growing. In the UK and parts of Europe, UV is well established, thanks in part to early leaders like Hanovia. In the United States, some segments, such as municipal drinking water, are advanced, while others, such as food and beverage, still rely heavily on chemicals. Nuvonic views this as a growth opportunity and is actively educating underdeveloped markets.
Customer expectations are higher. Users want smarter systems, remote support, and proven performance. Nuvonic’s global presence now makes that possible, backed by validated systems and localised expertise.

Bottom line, the market is evolving fast, and Nuvonic exists to help customers not just keep up, but lead.
