UV-C barriers inside the air duct can prevent germs from entering through the external supply air or the distribution of microorganisms by recirculation systems. UVpro KMD air channel modules are mounted directly in the air channel and they allow an easy use of UV-C technology in supply air ducts and recirculation systems.
Alternatively, for air channels that are more difficult to access, UVpro FM flange modules can be used where the mounting can be done from the outside of the channel.
We offer a wide range of proven applications where our customers are in the industrial sector, as well as residential and public buildings, hospitals, universities and offices.
Installation of a UV system in an office building
In the following application, the task was to design an air duct disinfection system for an office building. The goal was to eliminate all common airborne pathogens which are harmful. This calculation is based on information provided by the customer and the scientifically obtained dose values which are issued by the IUVA (International Ultra Violet Association).
For the Layout, the customer provided us the dimensions of the air duct (height, width, length), the airflow in cm³/h as well as the material of the air duct. Given the dimensions of the air duct, the airflow per second as well as the contact time can be calculated. Table 1
Since the material of the channels have an impact on the performance, they must be included in the calculation. The most common materials of air ducts and their reflection rate are listed in Table 2.

Software-based calculation for an optimal disinfection result
The calculations were done with our software model which is programmed to simulate the UV radiation over the entire channel. Using this method, we can determine the amount of lamps and positioning needed to achieve the desired results. During our calculations, we also consider the amount of fresh air versus the amount of circulation air to obtain our LD 90 dose output of the system .
The design of the equipment can be either targeted to specific microorganisms to be eliminated or designed for general improvement of air hygiene and elimination of all airborne pathogens and respiratory diseases. Depending on the customer‘s disinfection requirements we can design our systems to achieve the desired log reduction

UV hygiene for people’s health
The main task in this project was to protect people and employees from the threat of respiratory diseases by installing UV technology in the HVAC systems of the building.
Based on the calculation data and to achieve the required output, 48 UV-C lamps (24 UVpro KMD modules) were installed in the supply air duct. The result is a significant improvement in air hygiene and people‘s safety in public buildings and offices. By integrating UV technology into its HVAC system, our customer is best prepared for future threats and takes important measures against the spread of contagious respiratory infections for people‘s health.
